Leaving behind in the square dew from their villages, they disappeared beyond the mountain. They left lettuce leaves, drops of oil, hens' feathers and the slow breathing of their own shadows. They carried produce from beyond the mountains, dumping them on the asphalt to sell. They returned home and the feathers they had left there flew away to join them. _______________ Translated by Anne Fairbairn
