• Love at the Equator

My heart embraces your heart At the Equator Where the tropical islands of love And the cocoa trees Twine around our baby hearts The rains shower and cleanse us Unto the horizon lines We quiver and shiver Like white swans And let out a jolly, wet laugh We run barefoot Above scattered ponds Toward the fields of golden corn That you may dance with the Maya girls In your variegated shawl And that you may play Bolero And Ranchera music You will prepare for me The delightful coconut drink And slice the ripe pineapple Into sweet, tender hearts Like your sugar-sweet heart You will also prepare gourmet fajita And sea food For us to relish Under the palm trees O what delightful feast! You rowed your wooden canoe Across the unyielding savannah And built our little tree house Atop the giant tree Near bird nests And friendly parrots and parakeets That, with their own charming chatter Narrate the tale of our wondrous love That fill both earth and heaven You engrave my name On the bark of the ancient tree And perfume the chamber of my heart With arcadia flowers And when evening arrives You comb my black hair You raise it higher and higher And decorate it with wild blossoms To celebrate the Cuban salsa dance At the Equator
