• The Lovers' Circus

A dark-skinned woman Hewn from smooth, lustrous amber Treads barefoot The jungle mud She carries on her head A basket of pineapple and African coconut As she leisurely strolls And greets the handsome hunters Silver bracelets jingle on her arms And her tight nose-rings resemble a daredevil Like a swinging African child Hunting rifles hang from the hunters' backs While an African lioness mocks them In dreadful silence She grins at them With lips that resemble Burned coffee beans And tempts them With the ferocious movements of her body She winks at them With the eyes of a drowsy Kuala bear And mumbles diabolic incantations Goodhearted victims Appear once a year During the hunting season Each looking for a wild query Some hunts a gazelle Another pulls off a piece of ivory While a few fall in the trap Of the African lioness And thus turn into clowns !In the lovers' circus
