She attached a vivid purplish lamp to her ears A lamp like her own crimson heart A mad throb irradiates in her depths And looks for the shores of civilization For flashes emitting from hand-held lamps For water passageways Connecting scattered and separated hearts She searches for love boats That hide lovers with their masts And for balconies Where she hung Children's clothes, lover's kerchiefs And sailors' jeans She looks for the consummate longing of reunion The rustling of love letters The awe expressed by tourists When inside museums She looks for pretty women Rushing to acquire Venetian accessories And for guitar players Eulogizing female lovers Who died of insatiable longing In the water of the Greek civilization The crimson lamp dies out in her heart And the beautiful damsel Drowns in her own tears
